Jimmy Ray Gets First USA Modified Victory
Kevin Montgomery Tucson, Arizona (March 28th, 2010) – New Mexico’s Jimmy Ray raced to victory at the season opener for the Barnett Harley Davidson UMP West Modifieds at USA Raceway.
With 34 cars checking in for the speed competition, Ray would find himself in tough company as he held off USA Raceway Champion RC Whitwell and Southern New Mexico Speedway Champion, Fito Gallardo. The Modified veteran moved to the lead from his 5th starting position and held off the constant nuisance from the champs as he captured the 25-Lap feature.
Nick O’Neil and Jacob Gallardo rounded out the top 5.
The “Water Boy” Tom Campbell returned to Super Stock action after more than a year off from competition as he took his new Daryl Fischer machine to victory lane in its first outing. Campbell held off a fast moving Sherman Barnett followed by Lonnie Foss, Daniel Stricker, Dana Boatwright and John Buerger. Barnett would later fall prey to post race inspection moving Foss and the rest of the field up one position.
Bo Partain, ex Central Arizona Raceway “Water Boy”, continued his dominance in the Factory Stock division topping a strong field of 23 cars as he took his second 20-Lap feature in as many tries. Partain held off Calvin Catlin, Isaac Zaragoza, Trevor Hildalgo, Bucky Andrews and Robert Burchett. Catlin would also fall short at post race inspection earning a spot at the rear of the pack.
Stephen Lee added to the trend of present and former track employee winners as he topped the 15-Lap FWD Hornet feature while Jim Hock towed from Mesa to take the RWD Feature.
